When I was in High School my best friend at the time asked me out. I rejected, knowing that I was gay. Later that night I called her up and confessed to her how I only like boys and that it’s always been that way. After telling her this we grew closer but it came with difficulties, such as my parents.
Coming out to my parents was a challenge. They were dropping me off in New York for college and my 18th birthday was coming up so we went out to celebrate. I showed up in a full face of makeup. Like, FULL FACE.
The first thing they said was, “Why are you wearing so much makeup? People are going to judge you.” They didn’t get the gist of what I was going for. Later that week they sent me an email titled: “Be Careful on Grindr (use condoms).” I was so surprised that this was how they acknowledged to me that I was gay. Anyways, they still don’t think I should be wearing a full face everyday but they do support me which is all that matters.
